Euonymus

Brief Description

Euonymus are great landscape shrubs because they’re easy to care for, they add color, and they’re drought tolerant. Some have rich colors and variegated foliage. They’re popular in Greater Prescott and are mostly seen in the form of a shrub. There are around 150 varieties of Euonymus.

Planting

Planting is based on space availability. Relative to its mature size, make sure wherever it’s planted will have room. When young, Euonymus requires an average amount of water.

Care

Euonymus are very easy plants to care for. Before it’s mature, you can prune whatever shoots are growing crazy, while a hedge trimmer can work when it’s fully mature. As for watering, make sure you move the emitters away from the base to promote roots growing bigger and stronger.

Flowers

Depending on the variety, flowers range from Gold to Yellow to Purple to Red to White.

Varieties

One variety we like is the ‘Chollipo.’ The leaves are a mix of green & creamy white/yellow and it can be planted in a large container, used as a hedge, or anything in between. ‘Ivory Jade’ is another variety we like because of its ivory white leaves, creating a great accent between the green leaves.

Invasive

The Euonymus is not invasive.
