Planting
This tree should be planted in a prominent position because of its unique purple leaves. Keep in mind when selecting a location that it grows up to 20 feet wide, so keep it away from structures. Once you plant it, don’t forget to install tree stakes, as this will keep the tree from being injured by the wind.
Care
The Purple Leaf Plum is an easy tree to care for. We recommend that during winter the tree receives a thinning, as it keeps things more orderly through the years. Remove the tree stakes once the tree is established and move the emitters away from the base a couple feet. This will force the roots to grow out and away from the trunk, which will help with strength and drought tolerance. One yearly fertilization would never hurt either.
