Deodar Cedar

Brief Description

The Deodar Cedar is a beautiful tree perfect for adding uniqueness to your landscape. As it ages, its branches spread apart, giving it a layered appearance, which is quite striking. It also works well for creating a natural-looking privacy screen, when planted in clusters. This tree does require a large space, as it grows 25 feet tall and 15 feet wide.

Planting

Because this Cedar is large when mature, plant it away from structures, sidewalks, etc.. Make sure the location can handle the size without encroaching on the other landscape shrubs & trees. Once it’s planted, make sure you install tree stakes. This will help with strength during the initial couple years, then you can remove them.

Care

The Deodar Cedar needs very little, if any, care. Prune any dead branches when you see them. In the small chance that you have a ‘wild branch,’ simply prune it back. At some point, you may want to trip away the bottom row of branches. Maybe they’re annoying touching the ground or or you want more visibility. This is completely acceptable as long as you do it during the winter because pruning like this during summer may injure the tree. Enjoy this beautiful tree!

While there are numerous cedar varieties, we prefer this variety over the others, especially for Greater Prescott.

Invasive

This tree is not invasive.
